Dolpo Shey Gompa Trek Via Rara Lake

The great Himalayan trail Dolpo to Rara Traverse leads you from the barren landscapes of Dolpo via Shey Gompa into the vast, thick forests around Rara Lake. You visit 2 stunning lakes, the magical emerald green Phoksundo Lake and pristine Rara Lake, the biggest lake of Nepal.
The trek brings you to Shey Gompa, which is often referred to as the spiritual heart of Upper Dolpo. It’s a magical place, situated at the base of Crystal Mountain. Crystal Mountain is visited by hundreds of pilgrims each year, who make a kora (circuit) around the mountain, Dolpo’s own version of Mount Kailash.
The Dolpa to Rara Traverse is a strenuous hike, with four passes above 5,000 meter, Nagdalo La of 5350 m, the Nyingma Gyanzen La (5563 m), the Yala La (5414 m) and the Chyargo La (5150 m). Besides, you stay above 4000 meters for a long time, which means very cold nights. But the unforgettable landscapes, the views from the passes and the contacts with a very special untouched culture make it all worth it.
