Cultural Significance

Bhutan’s Living Buddhist Culture

Bhutan’s identity is closely woven with Vajrayana Buddhism. Dzongs combine monastery, fortress and administration, and many of them remain centres of community life. Tiger’s Nest is one of the most revered sacred sites in the Himalaya, associated with Guru Rinpoche.

Visa, SDF and Travel Rules

Bhutan rules: Bhutan travel rules, the visa process, the Sustainable Development Fee and official requirements may change. Eco Holiday Asia verifies current arrangements with authorised Bhutan travel partners before confirming your trip.

Season & Weather

Best Season and Weather

March–May and September–November typically offer the most stable weather and clearest mountain views. Festival (Tshechu) timing follows the Bhutanese calendar and is confirmed from official sources before departures are published.

Health & Altitude

Health and Fitness

Most of the route is at moderate altitude (1,200–3,100 m). The Tiger’s Nest hike is the most demanding section — reasonable fitness is helpful; we plan a relaxed pace and horse support for the lower trail is available.

Travel insurance covering trip cancellation and medical care is recommended.

Travel Responsibly

Responsible Travel Notes

A few simple choices keep your visit respectful and low-impact in sacred landscapes.

  • Respect local customs, dress modestly and follow your guide at temples, monasteries and sacred sites.
  • Ask before photographing people, rituals and the inside of monasteries.
  • Walk clockwise around stupas, mani walls and sacred sites where this is the custom.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle and avoid single-use plastic in remote regions.
  • Support local guides, drivers, lodges, restaurants and community businesses.
  • Follow permit, border and conservation rules at all times.
