Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Spiritual Journey
A contemplative, spiritually focused pilgrimage to Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash, with respectful pace and time for darshan, prayer and reflection.
The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Spiritual Journey is for pilgrims and seekers who want to spend time with the sacred geography — not just visit it. The itinerary builds in additional time at Lake Manasarovar, a slower kora and quiet space for darshan, prayer and contemplation, alongside the permit, transport and accommodation work that high-altitude travel requires.
About This Pilgrimage
The route follows the classic Kyirong overland approach to Saga, Lake Manasarovar, Darchen and the Mount Kailash kora. The difference is in the pace and emphasis: an additional rest and reflection day at Lake Manasarovar, a calmer kora with stops for prayer at significant points, and a respectful end-of-journey return through Kyirong to Kathmandu.
Trip Highlights
- Extended time at sacred Lake Manasarovar
- Slow, contemplative three-day kora around Mount Kailash
- Pilgrimage briefing and Pashupatinath visit in Kathmandu
- Permit and document coordination
- Vegetarian meal arrangements available on request
- Quiet space at sacred points for darshan and prayer
- Small private groups only
A Pilgrimage to Two of the World’s Most Sacred Places
Mount Kailash, at 6,638 m, is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and followers of Bon. Lake Manasarovar, at over 4,500 m, is one of the most sacred lakes in the world, traditionally connected with the creation of the universe in Hindu thought. Together they form a sacred geography unlike any other.
Travel That Supports Local Communities
Local guides, drivers, lodges, kitchens and pilgrimage-support teams across the Nepal and Tibet sides are the backbone of every Yatra. We keep groups small and follow the rhythms of the sacred landscape.
Respect for local custom, language and ritual is central to the spirit of this journey.

Pilgrimage Guide and Support
An experienced Yatra guide travels with you throughout. On the kora we arrange yak support for luggage and, where helpful, pony support. The Eco Holiday Asia Kathmandu office is available 24/7.

Permits and Travel Documents
Tibet & Kailash permits: Travel to Tibet and Mount Kailash requires permits and arrangements through authorised channels. Rules, border access and document requirements may change. Eco Holiday Asia verifies the latest requirements before confirming your trip.
High altitude & remote travel: This journey involves high altitude and remote travel. Itineraries may change due to weather, border rules, permit conditions, health needs or local authority instructions.
Best Season and Weather
May to September is the typical operating window. Plateau weather can change quickly; we plan buffer time and a calm pace.
Health, Altitude and Fitness
The Dolma La pass exceeds 5,600 m, and most of the Tibet section sits above 4,000 m. Gradual acclimatisation, sensible pace and travel insurance with high-altitude evacuation cover are essential.
We recommend a check-up with your doctor before booking if you have heart, lung, blood pressure or other significant medical conditions.
Responsible Pilgrimage
A few simple choices keep your visit respectful and low-impact in sacred landscapes.
- Respect local customs, dress modestly and follow your guide at temples, monasteries and sacred sites.
- Ask before photographing people, rituals and the inside of monasteries.
- Walk clockwise around stupas, mani walls and sacred sites where this is the custom.
- Carry a refillable water bottle and avoid single-use plastic in remote regions.
- Support local guides, drivers, lodges, restaurants and community businesses.
- Follow permit, border and conservation rules at all times.
