Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Spiritual Journey

A contemplative, spiritually focused pilgrimage to Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash, with respectful pace and time for darshan, prayer and reflection.

The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Spiritual Journey is for pilgrims and seekers who want to spend time with the sacred geography — not just visit it. The itinerary builds in additional time at Lake Manasarovar, a slower kora and quiet space for darshan, prayer and contemplation, alongside the permit, transport and accommodation work that high-altitude travel requires.

Overview

About This Pilgrimage

The route follows the classic Kyirong overland approach to Saga, Lake Manasarovar, Darchen and the Mount Kailash kora. The difference is in the pace and emphasis: an additional rest and reflection day at Lake Manasarovar, a calmer kora with stops for prayer at significant points, and a respectful end-of-journey return through Kyirong to Kathmandu.

Spiritual Significance

A Pilgrimage to Two of the World’s Most Sacred Places

Mount Kailash, at 6,638 m, is sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and followers of Bon. Lake Manasarovar, at over 4,500 m, is one of the most sacred lakes in the world, traditionally connected with the creation of the universe in Hindu thought. Together they form a sacred geography unlike any other.

Community Tourism

Travel That Supports Local Communities

Local guides, drivers, lodges, kitchens and pilgrimage-support teams across the Nepal and Tibet sides are the backbone of every Yatra. We keep groups small and follow the rhythms of the sacred landscape.

Respect for local custom, language and ritual is central to the spirit of this journey.

A few simple choices keep your visit respectful and low-impact in sacred landscapes.

  • Respect local customs, dress modestly and follow your guide at temples, monasteries and sacred sites.
  • Ask before photographing people, rituals and the inside of monasteries.
  • Walk clockwise around stupas, mani walls and sacred sites where this is the custom.
  • Carry a refillable water bottle and avoid single-use plastic in remote regions.
  • Support local guides, drivers, lodges, restaurants and community businesses.
  • Follow permit, border and conservation rules at all times.

It is a spiritually focused itinerary built around darshan, contemplation and respectful pace at Lake Manasarovar and Mount Kailash, with longer time at the lake and at sacred points along the kora.
How long is the spiritual journey?
Typically 15–17 days from Kathmandu, with an additional rest and reflection day at Lake Manasarovar and a slower kora.
