Muktinath Overland Pilgrimage Tour | 6-8 Days Jeep Journey
The road from Pokhara to Muktinath traces the full length of the Kali Gandaki gorge — the deepest valley on earth, flanked by Annapurna I (8,091 m) to the east and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) to the west. For pilgrims who want to absorb the landscape rather than simply arrive, this overland route reveals apple villages, Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, mustard fields and ancient trading posts that the mountain flight misses entirely. Eco Holiday Asia runs the journey in a private 4WD with an experienced mountain driver, comfortable guesthouses at each stop and a licensed guide.
Overview
The journey unfolds in stages. Day 1 drives from Pokhara through the river-flat valley to Beni, then climbs alongside the rushing Kali Gandaki to Tatopani — famous for its natural hot-spring pools. Day 2 continues through Ghasa and Lete, where the valley narrows dramatically and winds pick up — you are entering the rain-shadow zone of Upper Mustang. Marpha, a whitewashed Tibetan village of winding alleys and rooftop gardens, produces the best apple brandy in Nepal; a brief stop here is included before the final push to Jomsom. Day 3 is the Muktinath darshan: private jeep north to the temple at 3,710 m, temple visit with guide (108 spouts, Jwala Mai fire shrine, main sanctum), return to Jomsom. Days 4-5 retrace the valley southward, returning to Pokhara.

Best Season & Weather
October–November (clearest skies, golden mustard fields) and March–May (wildflowers, warmer) offer the most reliable road conditions. The Kali Gandaki road can have wash-outs post-monsoon (August–September). December–February is cold but driveable with warm layers.
Health & Altitude
The drive rises gradually, providing natural acclimatisation. Most guests manage the temple visit (3,710 m) comfortably after a night in Jomsom (2,720 m). Carry altitude medication if your doctor advises. Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
Responsible Travel in the Kali Gandaki
Eco Holiday Asia uses locally sourced meals, provides reusable water bottles, and does not arrange off-road driving in wilderness areas. Community donations are channelled through our local partner network rather than ad-hoc roadside giving.
