Practical Notes for Kathmandu Sightseeing

  • Dress modestly at religious sites: cover shoulders and knees. Pashupatinath provides scarves at the entrance.
  • Non-Hindus: Cannot enter the inner sanctum of Pashupatinath main temple, but the ghats and outer precinct are accessible and equally atmospheric.
  • Photography: Generally permitted at outdoor areas. Inside prayer halls, ask your guide first.
  • Crowds: Boudhanath and Pashupatinath are quieter in early morning (before 9am) and late afternoon. Bhaktapur is less crowded on weekdays.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a typical Kathmandu day tour?

Half-day tours are 3–4 hours. Full-day tours are 7–8 hours. If you want to spend longer at Patan Museum or Bhaktapur, just tell your guide.

Can I book a day tour on my trek arrival or departure day?

Yes. Many clients do a half-day Pashupatinath + Boudhanath tour on arrival day, or a Nagarkot sunrise tour on the morning of their departure flight. We plan around your flight times.

Is Bhaktapur included in the Kathmandu tour price?

Bhaktapur charges a separate heritage entry fee (approximately USD 15 per foreigner). This is included in our tour package price.

Can I book a Kathmandu day tour with short notice?

We can arrange tours with as little as 24 hours’ notice in most cases. For Nagarkot sunrise tours, 48 hours’ notice is preferred to arrange the early-morning vehicle.
