About This Tour

About This Tour

The Pokhara Nature and Village Tour is a 5-day lakeside escape combining the best of Pokhara — Phewa Lake, sunrise mountain views, and short walks into Gurung and Magar villages in the surrounding hills. Pokhara sits at 800 metres altitude with a direct view of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre range. It is calmer than Kathmandu, easier on the body, and gentle in pace.

With a local Pokhara guide you watch sunrise from Sarangkot, walk part of a community trail to a hillside village, take a boat across Phewa Lake to the World Peace Pagoda, and visit Begnas Lake for a quieter half-day. Throughout, the focus is on slow travel — short walks, tea with farming families, and time on the lakeside to read, eat or just watch the mountains.

This tour is ideal for couples, families, photographers and travelers wanting a Nepal trip that does not require trekking. It pairs well as a Kathmandu extension or as part of a longer Nepal cultural triangle.

Community Impact of This Trip

Pokhara's village walks support the small Gurung and Magar farming families who built community-trail networks years ago. Lunches and tea stops at family kitchens go directly to the host families.

Our local guides are Pokhara residents — many from the surrounding hillside villages themselves. By using lakeside locally-owned hotels rather than chain properties, your stay puts more income into Pokhara's local economy.

Responsible Travel Notes

  • Respect local culture, dress modestly at temples and ask before photographing people
  • Avoid single-use plastic — carry a refillable water bottle on tour
  • Follow your guide's instructions at heritage sites, monasteries and protected areas
  • Support local businesses — buy at family-run shops, eat at local restaurants
  • Respect sacred sites and community customs
  • Follow Nepal permit and conservation rules in protected areas

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Pokhara?
Pokhara is a 25-minute flight or 6-7 hour tourist bus ride from Kathmandu. We book whichever you prefer; the flight is the best option in good weather.
Is this tour suitable for families with children?
Yes — the pace is gentle, the sunrise drive is short, the boat ride is calm, and children enjoy the village walk if it's broken with snack stops. The lakeside is safe and walkable.
Can we add a trek?
Yes — Pokhara is the launch point for most Annapurna treks. Easy add-ons include the 5-day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, the 7-day Mardi Himal Trek or the 6-day Mohare Danda Community Trek.
What about paragliding or adventure activities?
Pokhara is famous for paragliding, ultralight flights, zipline and bungee. We can add an adventure day — see our Pokhara Adventure Day Tour.
Is one day in Sarangkot enough for sunrise views?
Yes — one good morning is enough. If weather is cloudy, we can try the next day or substitute the World Peace Pagoda walk.
What's the difference between Phewa and Begnas Lake?
Phewa is bigger, busier, with lakeside restaurants, hotels and shops. Begnas is quieter, smaller, surrounded by farms and forests. We visit both for the contrast.
Can we combine Pokhara with Chitwan?
Yes — Pokhara to Chitwan is a 5-6 hour drive or a short flight. Many travelers do a Pokhara + Chitwan combination as a Nepal Cultural Triangle add-on.
