About This Tour
Tamang Heritage Trail Overview
The Tamang Heritage Trail is a cultural trekking route through the traditional homeland of Nepal's Tamang people in the Langtang region, north of Kathmandu. This trek combines mountain scenery with deep cultural immersion — you'll stay in community-run homestays, visit ancient monasteries, soak in natural hot springs, and witness a way of life that has changed little over centuries.
Unlike commercial trekking routes, the Tamang Heritage Trail was developed specifically to bring tourism benefits directly to rural Tamang communities. Eco Holiday Asia runs this trek with local Tamang guides and arranges community homestays in villages like Gatlang, Thuman, and Briddim, where your stay directly supports local families.

Spring (March–May): Rhododendrons in bloom along the trail, warming temperatures. Occasional afternoon clouds but excellent morning visibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is the Tamang Heritage Trail?
The heritage section (Days 4-7) is moderate, with altitudes below 2,500m. The Langtang extension (Days 8-14) is more demanding, reaching 3,870m at Kyanjin Gompa and optionally 5,033m at Tserko Ri. Overall: moderate to hard.
What is a community homestay like?
You stay in a local family's home, sleeping in a private room with basic bedding. Meals are traditional Tamang cuisine — dal bhat, dhido, gundruk, and seasonal vegetables. Bathrooms are usually shared. It is basic but authentic and warm.
Can I do just the heritage trail without the Langtang extension?
Yes. The heritage trail alone (Syabrubesi to Briddim) is 4 trekking days and can be done as a shorter 7-8 day trip from Kathmandu. Contact us for a customised itinerary.
Is the Langtang region safe after the 2015 earthquake?
Yes. The trail and villages have been rebuilt. Langtang Village has been relocated to safer ground. The trek is fully operational and the communities welcome trekkers — tourism is essential to the region's recovery.
What permits do I need?
Langtang National Park entry permit and TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card. Eco Holiday Asia arranges both permits for you.
