About This Tour

The Kathmandu Valley Cultural Tour is a 5-day immersive journey through the cultural heart of Nepal. Within this small valley sit seven UNESCO World Heritage sites built by three ancient kingdoms — Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur. Together they form one of the most concentrated collections of living heritage in Asia.

Over five days, you visit them all — guided by local Newari cultural experts who explain not just the architecture but the living traditions: temples still used by today's priests, woodcarvers training apprentices, metalworkers casting Buddhist statues using techniques unchanged for centuries. You also eat where locals eat, walk where guidebooks rarely send you, and stay in hotels close to the heritage districts.

This tour is ideal for first-time visitors, culture lovers, photographers and travelers who want depth rather than rushed highlights. It can be extended with day trips to Bandipur, Nagarkot or Panauti — or combined with a Pokhara extension for mountain views and lakeside time.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Pickup from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), transfer to your hotel, brief orientation. Welcome dinner with introduction to Newari cuisine and an overview of the days ahead.

Day 2: Kathmandu — Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Thamel

Full day in central Kathmandu — Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kumari Ghar, the old royal palaces and temples. Climb to Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple) for valley views. Afternoon walk through Thamel and surrounding heritage lanes.

Day 3: Patan — Durbar Square, Patan Museum, metal workshops

Visit Patan Durbar Square, one of the most beautifully preserved heritage squares in South Asia. Tour Patan Museum, walk to the Golden Temple, then visit the metalwork and thangka workshops in Patan's heritage districts.

Day 4: Bhaktapur — Durbar Square, Pottery Square, Thimi

Full day in Bhaktapur — Durbar Square, Nyatapola Temple, Bhaktapur Pottery Square, and the surrounding Newari town. Late afternoon visit to Thimi, famous for pottery and Newari masks.

Day 5: Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Departure

Morning at Boudhanath Stupa — one of the largest stupas in the world. Cross to Pashupatinath, Nepal's most important Hindu temple. Transfer to TIA for departure.
